What an Epic Journey with Nepal Pioneer Treks

When I said Yes to joining close friends on a 3 week trip to Nepal it opened the door to many questions, months of planning and a close collaboration with owner/guide Binod. His 20 yrs. of experience planning and leading treks throughout the region was invaluable in helping us choose the Annapurna Circuit, set the itinerary, coordinate renting bulkier items, reserve hotels, arrange meals and plan transportation. Personally reviewing everyone's clothing & gear prior to departure helped pair down what was or wasn't needed, reduced weight and caught some important misses. We all agreed we wanted too avoid the road as much as possible and he immersed us in the beauty of near tropical forests, terraced farmland, quaint villages and "home cooked" meals at every destinations end. It's well worth asking in advance for "upgraded" accommodations (like hot showers, western toilets & wifi) because conditions can be rather primitive along the circuit. Binod accessed everyone's condition daily, modified the next days route if needed, educated us and motivated us when we needed a boost. On the Annapurna Circuit I'd recommend discussing private/public transportation for the Muktinath to Tatopanni section where the road is dust-choking due to high winds and steady traffic if side trails can't be taken. The journey became even more enjoyable and personal as we spent weeks together on the trail and got to know Binod and our great group of porters better each day. We achieved our goals and were never disappointed in the vast natural beauty of Nepal, it's people and culture. Binod and Nepal Pioneer Treks are highly recommended!

Nepal Pioneer Treks: The Authentic Way to Experience The Himalayas

    Oct 2018 • Friends

For our second trek in the Himalayas, four years after trekking to Everest Base Camp, the easiest decision was who will guide us on the trek; the destination was a subject of group debate. Binod, the owner-partner of Nepal Pioneer Treks has proven to be the ideal guide on our trek to the EBC. A professional, knowledgeable and most experienced guide in all things Nepal and its mountain treks (veteran of 20+ years of guiding groups and individual parties), Binod was the obvious choice for our group of 5. What stood out on this Himalayan journey was how expertly he was able to guide us through the selection process for the trek we eventually chose from among several options he offered for our consideration. We picked the Annapurna Circuit trek, and Binod was able to make it a unique, off the beaten track experience. Binod and his partner Eaklal are sensitive, curious and highly educated people. They are well spoken, with very good knowledge of English and an informed world view.
We are experienced and well travelled mountain hikers. Our trek of the Annapurna Circuit with Binod and his hand picked porters was a journey to cherish.

If It's Nepal, It's with Nepal Pioneer Treks

    Sep 2018 • Friends

When my husband and I decided to return for a second time to Nepal, the first thing we did was connect with Binod. He was our guide on our first trek to the Everest Base Camp 4 years before. We formed a close bond, and were communicating regularly since then. There was no question he was going to be our guide. The second call was to invite a close friend to join us. This soon bloomed into a party of five. We scheduled our trip for late September to do the 3-week Annapurna Circuit Trek, based on Binod's recommendation. Meeting up with Binod at the Kathmandu airport was like reuniting with our brother. Our friends soon joined the brotherly party, being drawn in by Binod's joyful disposition. Binod's professional demeanor built over 22 years as a guide, and his excellent mastery of the English language easily gained their trust.

The Annapurna trek follows a road accessible to motorized vehicles, 4-wheel drive, and motorcycles, which disturb the serene quiet of the mountains, kick up dust, and leave the stifling odor of carbon monoxide behind. Binod took us away from the main road, using side trails, going through beautiful forests, and wild hillsides, allowing us to enjoy the quiet and the beauty of the Himalayas undisturbed. Thanks to Binod's extensive experience and knowledge, we learned about the flora, the geography and the varied social make-up of the people of this region. The lodgings he secured for us were the best available (except for one night), offering a most welcome heaven after long days of trekking. He could read our level of energy, or lack thereof, to call the shots for the day, yet knew how to push us forward when necessary.

Our porters were part and parcel of our group, caring, helpful, and fun loving. One of them was a published Nepali singer, whose singing brought us to our feet dancing, or otherwise participating in the fun.

My husband and I had an opportunity to also meet and interact with Binod's partner Eak Lal, a most able, attentive and supportive person. With his many years of experience, coupled with his calm and welcoming disposition, I can easily imagine him to be a most wonderful guide as well.

    Lifetime memory

    Oct 2018 • Friends

When my colleague’s wife referred Eaklal, she said “Our guide was amazing… he made all the difference”, and this is exactly how I would describe Eaklal now.

My Everest Base Camp trip was booked 9 months in advance, and Eaklal has been so patient with my questions and gave me lots good advice. I did this trip in Oct, even in this busiest month, everything went smoothly from day 1. You feel like your experience has always been put on the top of list. We flew in and out of Lukla with only a few hours delay, which was actually “on time” over there, while there were a lot of people wait many days to catch the flight, had to walk extra hours to catch their group, had to travel by car to other place then hike 4 days to Namche. Of course there was always incident in peak season, we got pushed to another small tea house in Tengboche when there was a larger group took over all rooms in the one we booked. There was only 5 lodges, it does happen sometimes. I was prepared for a dark and cold night but Eaklal didn’t take the arrangement and look out for another solution straight away. He found us a better accommodation pretty quick and it wasn’t far. The trip was very well organized, I didn’t have to worry about anything but walk. The part Eaklal made a huge difference and I couldn’t thank him enough for, was his support during the whole trek. The Himalaya cold caught me on day 2 before the high altitudes, I went through all symptoms I could ever get from a cold throughout the whole trek and many times thought about giving up. Eaklal has been very supportive all the time. He checked on me regularly to make sure I’m ok, slow down the pace to accommodate my energy level, gave me good advice to help me feel better, encouraged me to step a little further everyday. My whole trek was made of these tiny little steps. Just a little more every day, then I got there :) Our base camp day was planned perfectly, we went up to base camp with less wind, less people, and had plenty time to take photos with no one stand in your background. On our way back, we met at least 50+ people heading to the base camp along the way, you can imagine the queue and how the photo will look like. Eaklal is a person with genuine love to the mountain, bring you to experience the most beautiful side of mountain, achieve your dream, it was an absolutely amazing trip and a lifetime memory.

Eaklal, now I can call you a friend, I would not hesitate to recommend you to anyone wants to travel Nepal, and definitely will be back :) Thank you!

    We'll definitely be back again

Where to begin with this review… In short, it was nothing less than amazing. I travelled with my mother to Nepal to do Everest Base Camp with Nepal Pioneer Treks. We were fortunate enough to have the company owner, Binod, guide our trek. Unfortunately when we arrived there had been no flights to Lukla for six days due to the weather, so after our flight was cancelled, we followed Binod’s advice and changed our plans to do the Annapurna Circuit instead. What followed was twelve days of unforgettable adventure.

From the first day of our travel we encountered a number of mini disasters thanks to Mother Nature, including flooded roads, landslides, and incoming storms, which left myself and my Mum unsure as to how to proceed, but we were quickly reassured by Binod every time. We entrusted Binod with our safety and he never let us down. With 20 years of trekking experience behind him, Binod didn’t push the limits of what was safe and what could have put us in danger, and he always knew how to handle each situation that was thrown at us. We could not be more grateful to have had him as our guide.

Because we’d had to change our itinerary and we were on a very tight time limit, we reassessed our plan each day. What was so great about our trip was the flexibility in our daily plan. If we were feeling fit we’d push ourselves further, and Binod knew when we needed to take it easy and get a jeep part of the way. It was so nice to be able to have a say in what we did and where we walked to, rather than following a rigid itinerary.

Throughout the duration of the trip, my Mum and I were surprised to find how comfortable each tea house was. Almost every night of the trek, we had warm beds, wifi, hot showers and good food.

We plan to come back to Nepal again and again, and I will not hesitate in booking Binod as our guide when we do. I cannot recommend Nepal Pioneer Treks and Expeditions enough.
